April 7, 2011 was the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking for Seattle’s iconic Space needle. Happy birthday!

The April 8, 1962 special section of the Seattle Times was devoted to the World’s Fair and its new Space Needle.

The Space Needle became the 1962 World’s Fair’s emblem of a “sky’s-the-limit” future. At home, Seattleites build all sorts of replicas, including Otto Horschuch’s aluminum bird feeder.
